Davidson Opera House | 1897

Built in 1897 by Edward T. Davidson, the Davidson Opera House brought famous talent of the day, including Ethel Barrymore, Irish tenor Chauncy Olcott, Maude Adams, Billie Burke and John Phillip Sousa. A fire destroyed the interior in 1913 and the building was reduced from three stories, to two stories. The property later operated as the Miner Theatre until the mid-1920's, when motion pictures replaced traditional performance. At that time it was converted to a movie house, but closing a few years later due to competitors. In 1937, it reopened as the Roxy, but closed within six months. In the years since, the building has primarily served as retail and office space.
